UK’s Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) Celebrates British Excellence in Premium Meat and Dairy Produce at Restaurant, Bar & Café Hong Kong 2024

(3 September 2024, Hong Kong) – The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), a non-departmental public body in the UK funded by farmers, growers and processors, is excited to showcase the finest British meat and dairy products emphasising quality, sustainability, animal welfare and nutrition at Restaurant, Bar & Café Hong Kong 2024, a trade fair held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 3-5 September 2024.

The UK is renowned for producing some of the world’s highest quality and most sustainable meat and dairy. Upholding exemplary animal welfare, British farmers ensure livestock is naturally healthy and growth-hormone-free, contributing to the high nutritional profile of meat and dairy from the UK. These products also adhere to rigorous food safety standards and demonstrate a commitment to environmental responsibility, with emissions from UK beef production significantly lower than the global average.

Spurred by strong local demand for safe, premium ingredients, AHDB partners with Wan Chai neighbourhood bistro Jean May for a premium British-produce promotion from 2-31 October 2024, spotlighting how the quality, taste and versatility of British farming can elevate diverse international cuisines.

Acclaimed Jean May chef Tiff Lo was invited to create original dishes that highlight the flavours of British meat and cheese at the launch of AHDB’s ‘Rich with Heritage’ campaign in March 2024, an initiative showcasing the country’s prodigious agricultural provenance. A selection of hearty offerings, such as Beef Tongue, Tripe, Horseradish Beans Salad; Pork Chop, Roast Apple, Roast Cabbage; and Roast Beef Rump Cap, Roast Onion, will be available as daily specials during the October promotion, subject to the availability of ingredients.

“British meats and cheeses are incredibly flavourful, and I am excited to showcase their versatility through my rustic, indulgent cooking,” said Chef Tiff Lo. “I am particularly passionate about using less well-known cuts that deserve to be celebrated, as seen in my signature dish of beef tongue and tripe.”

The ‘Rich with Heritage’ campaign reinforces a commitment to supporting the UK’s world-class food and farming industry. By highlighting eminent chefs like Lo who champion local, sustainable ingredients, it aims to inspire consumers all over the world to explore the quality and diversity of British produce.

“Hong Kong is a key market for British meat and dairy exports, with products that are famous around the world for great taste, quality and sustainability,” said Jonathan Eckley, AHDB’s Head of International Trade Development. “We are looking forward to a wonderful week at Restaurant, Bar & Café in Hong Kong.”

Established in 2008, AHDB is a UK statutory levy board funded by farmers, producers and others in the supply chain to help them grow together and thrive. Working from headquarters in Coventry, England, and bolstered by a 100-plus team of regional officers, it supports more than 100,000 agriculture and supply chain businesses throughout Britain, spanning the meat and livestock (cattle, sheep and pigs), dairy, cereal and oilseed industries.

A dedicated international team supports key UK export markets, such as France and Belgium, and develops the growing markets of China and Asia. Its latest research shows the consumption of pork and beef in Hong Kong is among the highest in the region, with the local food service and premium retail sectors offering significant opportunities for producers of high-quality, sustainably-sourced British meat.
