Pret A Manger Makes Merry this Christmas with Surprise Gifts and Festive Favourites

(7 November 2023, Hong Kong) – This holiday season, Pret A Manger extends a warm invitation to the city to embrace the festive spirit and join the celebrations of “Pret into Christmas”. With a dedication to spreading joy and making a positive impact in the community, the renowned freshly made food and organic coffee British brand introduces a delightful array of new and beloved festive food and barista-made drink options starting from 8 November 2023.

As part of its cherished tradition, for every Christmas menu item purchased until 2 January 2024, Pret will donate HK$1 to Feeding Hong Kong, a local food bank. This initiative aims to lift spirits and contribute to the well-being of the community.

The “Joy of Pret”, which permeates throughout the year, is heighted this holiday season by the surprise gifting of occasional complimentary food or drink items in shops ranging from famous festive favours, a scrumptious cookie or a warming beverage. In addition, a voucher to enjoy a 12oz coffee is a timely present for those who top up their gift cards by HK$200 from 8 November 2023 to 2 January 2024 (subject to limited availability).

Turkey Tradition

Tasty turkey sandwiches are among the top attractions of “Pret into Christmas”. In a nod to the brand’s UK heritage, Pret's Christmas Lunch Sandwich (HK$34) sees thick, tender slices of turkey breast layered with all the trimmings – herby pork stuffing, dollops of cranberry sauce and sprinkling of crispy onions as well as spinach and mayo. Vegetarians can savour traditional Christmas flavours and tastes too, as the red and white goodness of cranberry and brie is teamed with green spinach and crunchy pine nuts in Brie & Cranberry Sandwich (HK$34).

Conjuring a contemporary and cosmopolitan holiday vibe, Christmas Turkey Hot Wrap (HK$53, excluding the MTR outlet in Admiralty) has turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, Grevé cheese and sweet potato falafel baked to perfection.

Christmas Spice and All Things Nice

Pret also presents Christmas classics to whip up sweet cheer after lunch or at teatime. Mince Pies (HK$18 each) are prepared early with care from a traditional British recipe of mixed peel, currants and apple purée; its flavours intensify as the ingredients ‘rest’ until the winter months. This fragrant filling is then encased in fine butter pastry and baked in the oven in small batches. Each artisanal mince pie is etched with the Pret star and dusted in icing sugar.

Another great festive pairing for Pret’s organic coffee is a seasonal Gingerbread Cookie (HK$32). Handcrafted with love and plenty of spicy ginger, the cake-like biscuit never fails to warm the heart with its soothing aroma and soft, doughy texture. Pret’s Tiffin Bar (HK$21) also evokes Christmas with the nostalgic taste and scent of ginger. Stuffed with cranberries, chopped pistachios and orange zest too, and coated with dark and white chocolate, it is irresistible.

For double the Christmas spice, dip these sweet bites into the season’s star barista-made beverage of Gingerbread Latte (HK$45 for 12oz, served hot or iced). In a touch of whimsy, an iconic gingerbread man dusted in cinnamon powder caps the frothy head of this decadent drink. Catering to various dietary preferences, PRET offers organic milk options sourced from naturally fed cows, as well as organic plant-based milk alternatives like rice-coconut milk, oat milk and soya milk, all at no additional charge.

After bringing its festive colour and sweetness to savoury arrivals, the Christmassy fruit of cranberry takes another bow in Cranberry Granola Bowl (HK$42). The crunchy cereal treat is softened by smooth Greek yoghurt, sweetened by honey, and enlivened by pomegranate, dried berries and pumpkin seeds.

Ringing in the New

Bolstering the Christmas fare are new arrivals designed to delight in the countdown to the year-end festivities. Inspired by American delicatessens in the US, the New Yorker Rye Roll (HK$44) is a tangy East Coast classic, with salt beef flanked by mustard mayo and gherkins below, and pickled cabbage, rocket and crispy onions on top. The rye roll comes with barley grains for extra textural bite. The spicy, smoky, sweet flavours of freshly sliced pastrami combined with red onion, layered with Grevé, are folded into French croissant dough and oven-baked in store for the fragrant Pastrami & Onion Hot Croissant (HK$29, excluding the MTR outlets in Admiralty and Central, and ifc mall branch).

New winter warmers are led by Crayfish Macaroni Cheese (HK$68, excluding the MTR outlet in Admiralty, and Citygate and Festival Walk branches), a luscious pasta dish of rich crayfish, mature cheddar cheese and market-fresh cauliflower smothered in bechamel and lobster sauce.

In a hearty alternative to turkey, Chicken Pot Pie Soup (regular HK$49; as a side HK$35) marries succulent chunks of chicken with a veritable vegetable garden – potato, green pea, carrot, shiitake mushroom, white onion and celery with lashings of cream. The final savoury newcomer allows adventurous palates to veer from the Western kitchen to the tropics – Spicy Sweet Potato & Coconut Soup (regular HK$44; as a side HK$35) has a ginger purée kick, blending orange sweet potato, coconut milk and white onion.

’Tis the Season to Party

Pret’s party platters provide simple and satisfying solutions to home or office catering needs over the festive season. These takeaway boxes packed with sandwiches, salads or biscuits cater for 4 to 6 hungry people and can conveniently fuel gatherings throughout the city using the Pret Delivers service (free delivery on orders of HK$500 or more).

The Classic Super Club joins English high-tea staples like Chicken Avocado, Crayfish Rocket and British Cheddar & Pret Pickle in ‘The Classic Selection’ (HK$315).

Pret’s Protein Box Platter’ (HK$335) will perk up any flagging party spirits with a nutritious assortment of chicken, egg and salad plus snow peas. The sweet potato- and portobello mushroom-headlined ‘Roasted Portobello Vegan Salad Platter’ (HK$315), and the Egg Mayo & Tomatoes, Brie & Cranberry and British Cheddar & Pickle sandwiches in the ‘Vegetarian Selection’ (HK$285) effortlessly cater to non-meat eaters.

Power of Goodwill

Christmas comes early to Pret with seasonal goodies abounding at its jolly, holiday-decorated stores. With the support of loyal customers, the brand prioritises the true meaning of Christmas each year by making a HK$1 donation to its long-time charity partner, Feeding Hong Kong (feedinghk.org), for selected festive items.

“One of our core values is ‘doing the right thing’ and this rings particularly true as we happily ‘Pret into Christmas’,” says Pret A Manger Managing Director (Asia) Eira Jarvis. “Giving back to the community and helping those most in need is important to our customers as well, so we are delighted to facilitate spreading joy through The Pret Foundation’s partnership with Feeding Hong Kong. Every single purchase from our Christmas menu in this season of goodwill will aid the estimated one million people in Hong Kong who live in poverty and struggle to afford nutritious meals.

“At the same time, we trust our seasonal offerings – from beloved Turkey Feast and Brie & Cranberry sandwiches, to winter-warming barista-made drinks like Gingerbread Latte, to our party platters – and surprise rewards of complimentary Pret treats will add to the exciting buzz that heralds Christmas and the New Year in Hong Kong.”

The mission of Pret Foundation in Hong Kong is to break the cycle of hunger, homelessness and poverty. Every day Pret Hong Kong gives as much of its unsold food as possible for community distribution, and last year this amounted to more than 85,000 items.
